The Journal of Korean Medicine deals with Korean medical disciplines overall and plays a role in compiling the latest research across various disciplines. Issue 1 of the journal was published in 1963 and the Journal has been published quarterly since 2012, with two of the annual issues in Korean, and two in English.
Theses published in the journal cover a variety of subjects, such as review theses, case reports, etc., as well as original articles.
In addition to doctors focused on oriental medicine, many scholars, doctors and researchers in a variety of fields are invited to submit their theses to the journal. Determination of whether or not a thesis is critical for the Korean medical community and suitable for publication is made by three special examiners upon submission.
In 2007, a research ethics guideline and committee was established to verify current critical issues, such as plagiarism, forgery, falsification, and the like in the medical science world.
In addition, traditional Korean knowledge journals were selected as precedent technical literature which must be checked when an application for international patent is evaluated at an international agency meeting (PCT/MIA), according to the 15th Patent Cooperation Treaty hosted by the UN-affiliated WIPO Worldwide Academy of the Korean Intellectual Property Office. The journal therefore contributes to an institutional basis for the prevention of patenting traditional Korean knowledge.
The Journal of Korean Medicine is making great strides in becoming a leading international journal through SCI registration.
